- GordonThreeExplorerSpend a bit more and get a class T fuse and holder. Look at the short circuit current of your battery bank and the interrupt capability of the fuse.
- Bigfoot2005ExplorerThanks to everyone for your help and input.
I am also wondering what sort of fuse do you guys use? I am use to installing car stereos and using ANL inline fuse. Will these also work with for inverter protection? Looking at a 200 amp inline fuse with 2/0 welding cable. - See manual p23
(note copper wire only)
The distance between the battery bank and the GP-ISW should be as short as possible to achieve maximum efficiency and to reduce fire hazards. The size of the cable should be thick enough to limit the voltage drop to less than 2% when carrying the maximum input current to prevent frequent low-input voltage warnings and shutdown. Only use high quality copper wire.
For greater efficiency, the cables should be as short as possible. The combined cable length should be no more than 10ft (3m). Keeping your wire runs as short as possible helps to prevent: low voltage shutdowns and nuisance tripping of the DC breaker because of increased current
draw. The table below shows the recommended DC cable size, fuses/circuit breakers and DC grounding cable sizes for the GP-ISW (Note: these values are correct for cables in free air, not conduit)
Model Wire AWG Inline Fuse / Circuit Breaker
GP-ISW1500-12 #2 F-200A - pianotunaNomad IIINo aluminum wire. 15 feet may need 1/0 wire.
Move the inverter closer. - GordonThreeExplorer

Another 4/0 welding cable, lots of tiny strands of cooler wires. Used a hydraulic crimper for the lugs.
Im working on the install of a 3000W Magnum Hybrid i should finish today. Just need to connect it to the battery bank, do the function testing and set the charger specs.
X2 4/0 welding cable for me, pure copper with super flexible neoprene insulation.
Despite inverter and batteries in the same storage area I still have 12 feet of cable total 6+6. The parallel bus between the batteries and some slack to remove the inverter with out disconnecting it. - ndrorderExplorerCopper wire is preferred for the many reasons already provided.
Handy wire size calculator here:
https://www.wirebarn.com/Wire-Calculator-_ep_41.html - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerI've successfully used 2/0 AWG on 1,500-watt inverters with a total circuit length of 30'. The 2 wire harness would connect to polarity oriented buss bars and not directly to battery posts.
- Best to get the inverter in hand. Then figure out placement. Lastly order the 12v cables for exact fit.

The owner's manual probably would.
Anyone know the largest size wire a Go Power 1500 watt inverter can take? - phemensExplorerI've yet to see an inverter at 1500 watts or above that didn't have lug terminals
