Hmm. I wonder if it is a ground thing. Is the plug you are plugging into on the inverter circuit. Is it on a GFCI circuit? I think th EVSE is kinda picky on things like floating grounds etc. Are you using the stock level one charger?
I have the same car, (2015). Try it straight off the pedestal. If it doesn't work let me know and I'll try mine off of one of the coach plugs. Right now mine is charging directly off the pedestal.
