The scary part is that, while the Wet battery loses SG unless forced to 100% as described above when not recharged "fully" after each discharge, what if an AGM does the same thing?
Why wouldn't it? It is the same sort of battery, just an AGM version.
Lately we have been on solar but the weather has been mostly cloudy with some sun. Had to use the gen a couple times to catch up, but then going onto solar the clouds come back so no getting to 100%. Maybe 95% at best.
SG at that point is low, in Red or White---not in Green even when solar controller goes into "float." Never mind the happy news with the AH counter--the SG says we are in deep do-do. Very much like the OP and his Wet 31.
With Wets You can spot that with an hydrometer and do something about it. With AGMs you can't measure it with an hydrometer. How do you know what is happening? If you had AGMs you might think everything is going great.
Way to scary for me! I need to know what is really going on. Thank goodness we have lots of space and weight room in the 5er for batteries and can use Wets, with the hydrometer advantage to complement the Trimetric to know the true situation.
Those with small RVs which have less space/weight room and use AGMs seem to get by ok according to their reports here. They must know some secret stuff about how to tell what is really going on with an AGM. Can any of them share the secret? :)
