Like I posted a while back...

"Never heard a person admit aww----, I spent a fortune on this and I got err... threaded" with regard to batteries.

Time and customer filtering is the only way to verify reality. Been there, done that, Slick 50 gave me thirty miles per gallon and 700,000,00,0000 miles of engine life, globs of fetid oral fertilizer.

The customer star reviews on some websites is valid and useful. I purchased four 78xx voltages for a good price same vendor and there is not one ID mark on any of them.

When I became aware of the firefly carbon foam agms ~ 18 months ago, and posted a link here, There was little interest and page 2 never happened.

Apparently the patented firefly oasis carbon foam tech is different than the carbon employed in some other battery manufacturer's more recent offerings.

The carbon foam agms are aimed at the PSOC environment, those doing 50 to 80% day in and day out for weeks on end, like a cruising sailboat or a boondocking RV with not enough or no solar.

I've no real idea if they do what they claim or how it would do as they claim. I am waiting it out, and can afford to as I do not need a new battery at this time.

Praise for Mainesail aside, he does sell things and could certainly be biased as it seems he is a friend of the chief engineer at Oasis/firefly. I will continue to wait out this firefly oasis carbon foam AGM until my NOrthstar AGM shows signs of weakness, but I will be waiting on results.

Maine Sail says he will soon be performing capacity tests on a well used set of them.

If the other battery manufacturers do jump on the carbon foam or carbon additive bandwagon, well there really could be something there besides the new marketing for profit( lying and deceiving) that the internet allows to be so effective.

One statement which has my BS meter pegged is

Firefly discovered that much of the lead in the grid structure of conventional batteries can be replaced with a totally new type of grid material, carbon foam

If true, unless I completemy misunderstand, then the battery would be significantly lighter, but its only size, group31, is the same general weight as other AGM-31s

Somewhere in those links it is said the carbon foam additive is in the plate separators.

I don't know, but it bears watching, with popcorn, and a still happy, well performing Northstar AGM.

If these firefly's are indeed PSOC tolerant and can do 1000 cycles to 80% dod, then I would spend the 490$ for a group 31.

But part of me wants to learn Lifepo4 instead, but I am already set up for keeping AGM happy.

Anyway.... popcorn and time for me.
