I used Anderson PowerPole SB50 connectors. They are robust, foolproof, and cheap (on eBay). I crimped the contacts on mine but soldering is okay also. It doesn't matter what color connector you use but they all must be the same color. Each color is keyed differently so one color won't mate with a different color. There is a standard color code where each color represents a certain voltage. Yellow typically represents 12 volt.
