True for the most part. But that is very impractical while actually using the batteries, and that is when you need SOC info the worst !
The good news is that once you are experienced w/ your system, and w/ your habits of battery use, you can use your voltmeter to quite accurately tell you when its time to recharge.
I have a 2nd digital LED voltmeter mounted in the cabinet right at the tv, visible day or nite. I am seeing the voltage constantly while watching tv. w/ a given (always the same) load, which is the tv, the satalite receiver, and one light on. If the volt meter ever goes below 11.0, I know its time to recharge.
11.0 volts is correct for my system, includes voltage drop thru a long wired circuit etc. The voltage may be somewhat different for your system, and your habits.
