Keep blowing fuses ?

I just installed 2 fans in the stack of my refer to aid in cooling. Everything went well until I connected to a toggle switch to manually control the on-off function of the fans. Without the toggle the fans run as they should but obviously I don't want them running 24/7,but the minute I hooked up to the toggle switch and turn it on "pop" goes the fuse.Thinking it might be a bad switch I tried 2 others-all brand new and with the same result.? Anybody have any ideas where and what to look for?

We have a winner, I'll try to explain what I did as best I can but keep in mind the obvious...I'm an electrical idiot...
    Fan pos. to power pos.
    Fan neg. to power neg.
One pos. wire group to toggle switch wire
One neg. wire group to the other toggle switch wire
    and I did put a 1 amp fuse in-line
Am I really that stupid or can anyone understand that my thinking was the pos.-neg. connection to the toggle switch would would make/break the circuit ?
  • What's your DVM say about a possible terminal to case short? You do have one?

or the switches are inadequate for the load but I agree with Jim...the wiring is likely the culprit.

  • I hate to say it, but you've hooked the switch up wrong. It should have 2 terminals, and it should go in the hot lead.
