Different color jugs for different fuel. Red gas, yellow/orange/ or green for diesel. Also tag fuel type on container fill spout and equipment tank fill cap.
This is step one. Gas cans are supposed to be red, diesel cans are supposed to be yellow/orange/green. Step two is PAY ATTENTION WHEN FUELING. Step two is by far the most critical.
Oh, yeah, get a locking gas cap for the new rig, and NOBODY BUT YOU fills the tank. Keep the cap key on the ring with the ignition key, so you have to pull the key out to even access the tank.
Been driving diesels now for 15 years, never made that mistake, never want to. After a while, it becomes second nature to pay close attention to what you put in which tank/can. But the key is only fully aware/awake persons ever get to put in fuel. NO ZOMBIES ALLOWED.
Oh, yeah, one other thing: a sniff test sometimes is in order. Gasoline and diesel smell very different.
