For only a few dollars more, one can have a vented combustion heater that uses no power. Or add some solar panels and run the RV furnace. I think catalytic heaters (vented ones) are the cat's meow.
It is only because I trained my daughter to recognize the signs of CO poisoning that she got OUT of the location she was in and survived with no permanent effects.
For similar reasons, I refuse to run my generator if I'm going to be sleeping. Is there a way to run one safely? Yes--but you need it to be a long distance from the RV.
There are really three issues. In order of danger I'd say Carbon Monoxide, oxygen depletion and carbon dioxide. CO can kill you PDQ.
It is not that I hate unvented heaters. It is that I don't trust them to be properly used 100% of the time.
