I bought my 2 100 watt solar panels a few years ago with a mppt controller for about 500 bucks from solarblvd now tha same panels are 80 bucks...........
Panel prices plummeted in the last 5 years, and I could tell you why, though probably nobody is in the mood to listen to this again. Suffice to say that normal progress of technology etc etc had little to do with this.
Now, if you paid $500 for a pair of 100W panels and MPPT controller, here is a bad news for you: today you will pay close to $500 for MPPT alone, if it's anything decent and capable of handling your expanded system. Controllers prices didn't drop - not those good ones.
Btw, if going MPPT, you could wire those old 2*100W in series and add any number of 24V panels, they cost ~$60 per 100W.
As to this particular 100W panel, I can't figure out whether it's mono or poly. PV-SC100J12 is poly according to manufacturer website, but Solar Blvd in the next line says PV-SC100J12-M. For those wanting to squeeze every possible amp-hour out of the system, poly is usually better.
