Its pretty silly to not buy a motorhome because it has a Norcold fridge or Dometic for that matter. Install some type of fire suppression for a few hundred bucks and sleep well. Worst case, if you are that afraid of it, once you buy the unit, go out and have a heavy duty absorption cooling unit swapped in. The heavy duty units use much thicker steel, and are much less prone to bursting.
If you are that afraid of it, you probably should not buy a motorhome with a transmission. Transmission fires are the number one cause of RV fires. Maybe get rid of the engine while you are at it.
Our 1200 died in Sept 2012 at 4 years old, which was a warranty replacement for the original 1200 (cracked case) @ 2 years by Norcold. Since the warranty had expired this time, We had Leon Hershberger @
National RV Refrigeration in Shipshewana, IN rebuild it for $950. Now it has a much better designed heavy duty cooling unit that keeps the freezer sub-zero. It is an in-house Amish rebuilt unit, all-though not the "Amish Cooling Unit" talked about often here. A great company doing great work with many happy customers.
