The Jack is held off the roof by the arms- I haven't had or heard of any problems doing this due to wind.
FWIW, the Batwing is a measurably better antenna- if yours is bad, a Sensar IV with built in wingman would be the best fringe setup, or a less directional, cheaper alternative is the Winegard Razar Air replacement.
