Kwikee steps wont work

Yes! Look for a label, but be careful under there! Our label is on the bottom side of the piece that bolts to the bottom of the coach, NOT on a moving step.

You dind't state the Model Year of your coach. Ours is a 2003 and its step calls for Manual #875

I've reread all of your posts and to me the door switch seems to be working correctly. So forget everything you saw on YouTube, everything, that was for trouble shooting a PRE 1999 controller and motor. You have a 1999 or later controller and motor.

Google, Kwikee Step Manual #888. Download and print out that manual.

Referring to that manual, trouble shoot your steps.

Now do not get concerned about what you may read in the Google search results about there being different manuals for different steps manufactured in different years. Download the #888 manual.

After assuring that your controller ground is good(it is #12 and has green insulation), start the trouble shooting procedures.

Now if you want to know what specific controller you have in order to determine when the Motor and Controller were made, look for the 10 digit number imprinted on the black controller mounted neat the steps. It's not really of any value to know. Manual #888 covers them all. There is a manual that is virtually the same as the #888 that was printed by Lippert who now owns and produces Kwikee steps.

With the information you have given us so far, your controller ground(not the Magnetic switch ground)is bad or either the controller or motor is bad.

Manual #888 has trouble shooting instructions to identify the exact problem.

Okay, IIRC, in 1999, the complete motor/gear assembly and the controller was changed. As part of that change, the magnetic door switch changed from a NC to NO switch. When the door is closed, the switch applies ground to the brown wire and that should close the door.

As I understand it, another part of the change included using an entirely new controller. Prior to 1999 the controllers were color coded, after 1999 they all became black.

What color controller do you have?

The fact that your steps are doing nothing at all suggests either a bad motor or bad controler. If you simply had the wrong switch, the steps would extend when you closed the door and retract when you open the door.

Where are you testing the brown wire for voltage?

different years use a different controller that uses a diferent switch

some were normally open and closed when the magnet is applied
some are normally closed and open when the magnet is applied

all it does is send a signal to the controller saying to open the door

to test the switch, for get volts
use continuity
disconnect the switch wiring
set your meter for continuity, it will beep when you touch the probes together
connect to the wires coming from the switch
open and close the door
if it beeps on an off the switch works
if it never beeps, or never stops the switch is bad

i had a bad switch once, and bought the wrong one by mistake and had to buy another to get the correct one

if you replace the control board
buy a new switch that goes with that board
it could save a lot of hassle

Kwikee at some point in time changed the magnetic switch from normally open to normally closed. Or was it the other way around.
Your step has two grounds. verify they are both good.
There is two power sources to the control box. Make sure they are both good.

That ground is what stops the stairs from coming out right? I constantly have voltage so that would explain why nothing is happening. My rig is a 93 but the stairs look like they were replaced at some point.

I don't know what year rv you have but I would googleKwikee manual#888 or Chris Bryants website and look at the schematics and read the trouble shooting instructions.

All Kwikee steps since 1999 hane used ground on the magnetic switch. When activated the contacts in the switch close and as noted by another, send the ground to the contro)er.

The magnetic switch sends a ground signal to the controller.

Yep that was the first thing i did. I checked power to the motor which was 0v. I was hoping it was just a burnt out motor! That woulda been easier than this crazyness
