Kwikee steps wont work

Ive been fighting with my electric kwikee step for a few days now. It worked flawlessly for my ownership of the rig but suddenly it doesnt do anything. After following the video ive tracked it down to the magnetic switch. The troubleshooting video states that The magnetic switch is supposed to have 12v when the door is closed and 0v when its opened. But i have opposite. Between brown and red at the plug, i have 12v when the door is open. Once i shut the door i lose power. Keep in mind the stairs have not done a thing this whole time troubleshooting. Not even a click. Should i replace the switch and magnet? Im so baffled at how this voltage could be opposite
  • When my Kwikee steps did not work, I first went to the motor. I put my meter on the leads to the motor (pulled the plug off the motor to do this) and then I clearly saw the power was being applied to the motor for the few seconds it tries before the relay cuts it off.

Before you start replacing parts, you need to verify where the loss of power occurs.

In my case, the motor would try to move, then trigger the overload relay and power to the motor would drop. Once I realized that, I figured I needed to see if the motor would move if the load was not so high. I loosened the mounting bolts, that made the mechanism work easier, and then the motor worked just fine. A few washers under the bolts and it worked fine again.
  • I’d be baffled too! Replace the switch and magnet. How old is the coach?...your ownership?
