I know a MPPT is needed but is they any advantage to using large panels. here are some I have looked at http://www.solardesigntool.com/components/module-panel-solar/CNPV-Power/1541/CNPV-255M/specification-data-sheet.html.
Feasible or not.
Link doesn't open.
Feasible for what? Panels merely charge the battery, battery runs your devices, high-current devices require bigger battery bank.
Advantages of large 24V panels:
1) Less holes to drill in the roof, than with multiple small panels.
2) Lower amps, thinner cable. Wiring your suggested 2*255 can be done in series, using standard #10 MC4 extension cable, plug and play all the way. Simple.
3) Lower cost per watt, compared to smaller 12V panels.
Disadvantages:
1) Need to use more expensive MPPT.
2) Heavy, need 2 people to get it up on the roof.
3) (Sometimes) more difficult to stay clear of the roof structures like A/C and vents.
so the real disadvantage is a MPPT once there up there no big deal and I have a 6'x8' clear area
