LED 5050 cool white strips in Flourescent getting hot

I have installed two strips of the 5050 type non waterproof 12v LED lights into one of my Thin Lite fixtures.

I really like the result except the entire fixture seemed to be very warm to the touch after being on for about 30 minutes.

Is that normal?

Should one install a resistor or some such thing in the power wire for these strips?

  • Hi,

Are you supposed to remove the ballast and connect the LED light bulb directly to the 12 volt power source, or still use the ballast and run them at the 1,000+ volts that the ballast can put out?

    Just wondering?

And where did you get the bulbs (well LED replacements?)

    Thanks,

    Fred.
  • i've got one fixture with 3 strips of 21 leds
the others have 2 strips of 21 leds for the 30w fixtures
and 2 strips of 15 for the 18w fixtures

mine get kinda warm but not hot

neither the fixture nor the leds are as hot as when using the florescent tubes

we full time..so ours have seen daily use for about a month now

the fixture is the heat sink for the led strips
i stuck mine directly to the fixture.. No foam tape
  • They do get very warm but wont burn you. Ballast resistors are built in but whats your supply voltage?
