Led lamps operate on very low voltage. Often in the range of 2 volts,
Led Lamp Assemblies, however, can be designed for ANY voltage.
Was it a Radio Shack?) ... Unless the assembly is specifically labeled 12 volts.. was telling you how to make a flash bulb (remember those)
For 120 volt your best option would be a 12 voltLED assembly and power adapter and then you could run the thing on both voltages.. It would be best if the 12 volt supply was regulated at around 12-13 volts.
I have in this motor home.. Severaly LED assemblies designed to replace 1141 or the 10 watt landscaping lamp.. I have a 5 meter strip, sliced and re-connected so it fills a standard THINLIGHT Florcesent fixture (Man do I like that light)
I havfe a small shoret "Test Strip" (one segment from such a long strip) that's been up nearly a year now.. And at church I have the strip the test strip came with (Radio Shack, Paid WAY too much) this one is powered off a 12 volt wall wart.. Draws aroud 5 watts and turns midnight to noon where our keyboardist sits. Which used to be in the dark.. I finished the LED install two days ago (It's been temp installed for a month now) all that remains is for the church electrician to install a SWITCHED outlet for the thing (Switched extension cord just now) Man is it nice back there.
