led lighting

Is it possible to change the lighting in an 06 RV with LED lighting? I suppose it currently has halogen type lights? I know there are some florescent tubes under counter and in the bedroom. However the roof lights and dinette lights are halogen I think.
Is there a strong advantage to changing to LED if possible? I'm sure they us we less juice.

Thanks

  • i have modified many of my fluorescent tube fixtures with leds from cabin bright. their customer service is flawless and the system is much easier and less expensive than the led tube replacements. give it a look.
  • From memory my 6 Truck camper interior halogens consumed 7.91amps. The Led replacements consume .91 amps. We do not use the florescent lights. Compared to led they are not nearly as efficient.
  • Great work Fred. The link you provided is perfect Thanks

About 4 or 5 times less juice. Ex, 3 typical double-bulb domes with incandescent 18W bulbs will draw 45-50 AH from sunset to bed time and early in the morning. This is one 90 AH battery discharged completely - 'cause you shouldn't run it below 50%. LEDs of the same brightness would raw 10-12 AH over the same period.

Search Ebay for SMD LED boards or Google for "LED halogen replacement". I am not sure at all that your lights are halogen. Could be 12V wedge bulbs. In any event, the bulb type doesn't matter as long as they are 12VDC.
  • I replaced about half of my lights with LED's. When we dry camp in conserve mode we only use these. Plenty of light where we need it.

Basically I replaced a few light bulbs that look like car taillights with LED panels that have 24 each 5050 LED emitters. These put out about the same light as the bulb they replaced, but use about 1/4 the energy.

For the porch light, I removed the bulb holder, put in some sheet metal to mount 4 of the LED lights to it, then put on the cover. It now draws 1/2 amp and is much brighter. It used to draw 1.1 amps.

    Fred.
