Light Switch with Dimmer Question

I just replaced all of our ceiling lights with LED bulbs, our original lights had the dimmer function so our switch has the dimmer control. My LEDs will turn on and then dim some which I do not want. If I change out my original switch with the dimmer to just an on/off switch, will that stop my lights from dimming? Have any of you changed out the switch? Thank you.

  • Test by taking out the dimmer switch and remove the wire ends. Now touch the ends together and see how the lamps look. That will be the same as a normal on /off switch would have them when the switch is "closed"
  • As long as your running the LED's off DC (batt or converter), they should be as bright on a standard switch as with a dimmer all the way up.
  • I may need to 'splain a little more...LOL When you replaced your dimmer switch with a plain on/off switch did it keep your LEDs bright? My living area stays fairly dim with this configuration. These are the 12 volt T-4 LED lights.
  • If you want a dimmer with a real switch on it, you may have to build it yourself. The dimmers I've tested draw between 16-20ma Off. Not allot, but enough long term to be a boondocking issue
