lino cracked after cold spell

It's normal to only adhere it around the edges. I suspect RV's just use the outer walls to hold it in place.
Cracking happens all the time. My neighbor had his crack when the temps were in the teens a few years ago. I keep mine heated to just above freezing to combat this.

Maybe Ins. will cover. :(


EDIT: I tore my floor by accident and was able to piece it back together and use glue (Titebond, a PVA type glue was suggested by flooring mfr) to hold it down. You cant even find the spot I fixed. Might try that.

Happened to me last winter. Cold spell lasted 6 weeks and trailer 10 years old so the flooring gets brittle. I had to replace with plank flooring as the split had separated the crack by about an inch so couldn’t just glue down where the split was. Also cracked the whole length of the trailer.
On a positive note, the new flooring looks better and makes the inside of the trailer look newer.

We had this happen to a 10 year old TT. The flooring cracked during the first winter when we put it up on corner blocks. It was not used or occupied during the winters. I figure the corner blocks were too rigid and the center of the unit supported by rubber wheels flexed too much with cold temperatures.

Yep, but usually happens near the edges.

The plasticizers evaporate off over the years and becomes more brittle. So a temp that didn't hurt anything in year 2 can cause a failure in year 10.

Hmmm, so I'm not the only one.
Will see what the local RV place has to say, then contact the insurance company.

BTW, this site says cracking is less likely to happen if the lino is glued down everywhere, more likely if it's only perimeter glued:

Time for a new unit.... It's had it at 10 years anyway.

The materials used since @ 2010 or so by most manufacturers are supposedly "cold crack" resistant if you believe such things. This is one BRANDused by a lot of manufacturers.

I have a neighbor that owns a large truck stop/convenience center, and also includes a RV dealership. I had flooring crack in previous FW, after a number of years, so mentioned it to him. He showed me 3 brand new TTs on his lot, that the flooring cracked over Winter. He said the manufacturer just sends new vinyl out, and pays about $400 for repair. The repair guy uses quarter round on the edges, and looking at one new one, you'd never know it had been redone.

There is better, more expensive vinyl available, supposed to be, non cracking, in temp extremes. I have that in my current FW, time will tell, so far so good.

Rip it out, skim floor to make all joints smooth, glue down LVT flooring, carry on!

Mine cracked some years ago at the entrance door. I'm contemplating using the new plastic plank flooring. There is a thick version and a thin one.
