Lippert Solera Power Awning

Looking for advise about the Lippert Solera Power Awning on my trailer. The short lower arm is hinged in the middle so that the angle of the awning can be lowered to let rain water drain off.

The problem is the awning can only be strapped to the ground when this adjustable arm is straight (awning all the way up) or pulled all the way down.

When the awning is all the way up, it is flat with no slope at all. When it is all the way down, it hits the top of the door.

Seems like an engineering flub.

I could solve this I think by cutting 3 to 4 inches off this lower hinged arm, but if it doesn't work or causes other problems, I might not be able to get a replacement. Lippert doesn't list the arm as a part.

Anyone run into this or done something different?
  • I have no help for solving your question...but, I'm not a fan at all of "strapping an awning to the ground."

Have seen a couple of them ripped away from the side a a trailer that were tied to the ground. Seen just one and the damage it caused was enough for me.
If it gets windy, ours comes in.
  • I don't like strapping them down either. In fact, I never put straps on one until my latest trailer came with a power awning. Trouble is even a mild breeze or rain causes it to roll in a little and droop if I don't strap it down. Mine comes in if the wind gets up to 15mph or so.

I have seen a few people hang weights on straps instead of stakes in the ground. Probably a lot safer.
  • I understand why they should not be strapped down, but every unit with an electric awning here in our campground (135 sites) in central Florida has theirs strapped down. Why? Because the silly things won't stay down otherwise.
