Lithium Ion vs Lead Acid

In a previous life I was slightly involved with some of the largest lead-acid batteries there are, the ones in Submarines.
I have friends that are well, deeply involved (up to, and including the Navy's Main Battery Steering Committee)
They have been very -VERY- interested in Lithium-Ion battery as a "some-day" replacement for lead-acid battery
