Looking for High Temp Alarm/notifier

Anybody know of a device that will monitor room temperature and send something like a text or email if the room temperature goes above a set point, e.g. anything over 80 degrees and it sends out messages?

Thanks

This is a great idea. The older NEST can be found for cheap, and they're certainly easy to use. Just hook it up to power, you wouldn't even have to use it as an actual thermostat.
  • Assume you have a couple show dogs in your RV. You have to leave the dogs alone for a couple hours. Device would interface with Wireless, although the cellular device could also be an option. Not sure if the Nest would work or not in an RV.
Thanks for the suggestions so far Gordon has some good suggestions.

  • There are all sorts of devices that do this, from under $100 to over $1000.

Does the room have WiFi available all the time, or a hard wire network connection? The more inexpensive devices need an always-on connection to work correctly. Is power constantly available, is it 12v DC or 120v AC?

There are also apps you can get for a smart phone that will make a call or send a text or email. If that smart phone has service still, you don't need separate WiFi.

On the more expensive side of things, there are devices that you can put a SIM card in and will connect themselves over the cellular network in order to send the alert.

As far as products? The only ones I've used are high dollar units for monitoring corporate computing centers.

A quick look at Google turned up this one, very inexpensive:

    Thermopeanut

edit: never mind on the peanut, it's just a wireless thermometer.
