Low propane flow from street side tank on 5W

Before leaving on an extended trip, I checked my propane level and determined I had a full tank in the street side compartment and about half a tank in the curb side compartment in my fiver. About a week into the trip, I notice my half tank is depleted and we are drawing from the street side tank. I plan to refill my tank the next day. A few hours later DW tells me the burners on the stove won't light.

The next day I prepare to refill both tanks. As I disconnect the street side tank, I realize it weighs more than 50 lbs. I reconnect the tank, and try the burner on the stove. It lights, but then burns out after about two minutes. It will not re-light.

So, I move the full tank to the curb side compartment, reconnect, and propane is flowing freely. So, there is nothing wrong with the tank itself.

What could be my issue. Bad regulator on the street side? Clogged line?

How can I troubleshoot?

  • Separated propane cylinder systems on 5th wheel have TWO regulator.

MAIN auto changeover type on 'curbside' that controls the propane pressure to 5th wheel system and then the 30# (Red Top) regulator on 'streetside'

The 30# streetside regulator lowers/controls that cylinder pressure down from 100-250# (normal cylinder pressure) down to 30# PRIOR to flowing across front of 5th wheel inside cap to main regulator that drops/controls system pressure to ~0.4 psi

Flow issues........replace 30# Red Top regulator

  • I had the same issue on a Primetime Spartan. I don't know how to test a regulator but because the tank worked fine on the curb side, and the regulator was inexpensive and easy to replace, I changed it. Problem solved.
