LP Water Heater Updated Information

I took my water heater LP system out needed a cleaning, also would not always fire off. I cleaned and adjusted the spark igniter. Put it all back together. Fires right off, the flame is blue just past the burner. A little ways out it turns yellow. Is this a good flame or do I need to adjust the air mix? If so do I give it more air or less? When I had the access door open I had a lot more of a blue flame. When I closed the door I can see what looks like more of a yellow flame. Any help, I would be thank full for. Gary

  • I adjusted the air mix today. Have a great flame and lights off every time I tried it, Thanks to all that helped. Gary
  • Thanks Old-Biscuit that is what I was looking for. Guess I will open the air a little more. Thanks to all that posted for you help and time. Gary
  • The main burner flame should be mainly blue with a trace of yellow and fairly quiet.

Closing air shutter........results in more yellow/lazy flame (fuel rich--air lean)

Opening air shutter........results in more blue/strong flame (fuel lean--air rich)

Door open allows more air to burner area directly vs being pulled thru air shutter.
