Macerator hose question

Excuse me if this question has already answered, but I could not find it with search.

I am very new to the RV world and have a question. We have recently purchased a 2011 MB RS Roadtrek Sprinter. I love the vehicle. It came with a macerator and a small diameter hose to run to the dump tank to empty the gray/black tanks. In my readings, I have come to understand that most dump tanks have a 3 or 4 inch inlet pipe.

Putting the small diameter macerator hose in the larger diameter inlet is no problem. But, what if an "air seal" or "gas seal" is required? I can find no adapters for this arrangement. Do I just stuff a rag in the opening?

What is your recommendation?

Well the macerator should have come with an adapter to fit the big hole, HOWEVER.. Have heart.

I have noticed many campgrounds, to plug the hole when nobody is using it, use a flower pot full of concrete.

So, I bought the same size flower pot (89 cents as I recall) and filled it with concrete, for the most part.

in the middle of the thing I put a 3/4" PVC pipe (one inch woudl be better)
On top of that is a 90 degree elbow and a common garden hose fitting.

Fits in the hole nicely, can use the "Yummy Sewer Dount" or any other seal you wish if needed, IT has enough weight the pump won't blast it out of the hole.

mine has some fancy plumbing to allow a 2nd hose to attach, If I were doing it again I'd simply use a 2nd 1" PVC and adapters.. (With a plug) but alas, Hindsight is 20-20. The fancy plumbing does make a nice handle though.

I can photograph if you wish.
  • I have a device that is a donut with a small hose sized fitting that seals in the sewer input. some campgrounds require you to have one and can't just let a hose dangle into the opening.
    bumpy
  • I have never known of a seal being required at the dump site. If you are at the dumper with your trailer in tow I would just use a reg slinky hook up. The macerator is more for a situation where you need to either dump where there is no connection or using a blue boy. We use our macerator to push waste into a blue boy located in the bed of our truck. We then drive to a safe dumping location and dispose of it. I do not like to crawl along at 2 miles and hour pulling a load of human waste for who knows how far. Nasty accident waiting to happen.
  • The macerator isn't designed/intended to be connected to the sewer unless you are using it. A normal gravity system can be - but you have to turn on the macerator for it to do it's thing, so just hook it up when you need to dump your tanks.
  • If your system is missing the part that attaches to the sewer opening, you can get one HERE.

It's RV Molded Nozzle SKU 70400 at the bottom of the page...

You can also make one out of PVC purchased at Home Depot using 3/4 PVC and a threaded end....Dennis
  • If I understand the question you are saying you are going to put the macerator hose down the toilet opening inside your RV? That is not the way to empty your black or grey water tanks.
The macerator system is designed to attach to the tank discharge on the outside and under the street side of your rig.
