Mach III plus 13.5 ac fan running backwards?

Hello all,

My first trip out this year, my 2 yo ac was blowing through the filters and sucking through the vents.

I was told it was probably a bad motor starter so I replaced it.

Still blowing backwards. Cools fine but won’t distribute through the ducts.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For Alternating Current motors there is no such thing as backwards wiring. There is no positive or negative, both wires are both positive AND negative (not the correct technical description) that alternate 60 cycles per second (dont wet pants if this is not technical enough...). Switch wires and the motor runs the same direction.

On a Direct Current motor, like your vent fan, you can switch directions by switching wires, because DC does not alternate.

So, your A/C motor which runs off AC cannot be run backwards.

You can get a backwards fan blade, but these likely do not even exist. The motor runs only forward. The reason to wire it correctly is so the casing of the motor is not "hot" and cause electrical hazards if touched by a person also touching a ground, where the electricity could flow through your body...

Ok now I know Coleman's Suck. but that's the CONDENSER side of things (Outside) where as most A/C's blow.. And I think I FINALLY figured out why but that is another thread.

But inside is a squirrel cage blower or so I thought, you turn those puppies backwards they just don't blow they do not blow the wrong way. they just don't blow period.

Sounds like you have a baffled baffle or someone installed something cattywompus

    Specifically.. the ceiling cover

The air intake is normally toward the FRONT of the RV and the output to the back. if someone installed the inside cover and a baffle wrong... You get what you got.

  • There is nothing to cause the motor to run in reverse if you have not touched the system. What you probably have is the DIVIDER Gasket/Plate that separates the Intake from the exhaust has probably fallen over and you are getting the air mixed. Do you have the inside Plenum plate where you remove the Filter and you can see the evaporator? If so, right below the Evap between the Bottom of the upper unit and the filter housing there should be a fiber/gasket type rectangular piece to separate the intake and exhaust. Look at Page 9 where it states Duct Divider. Doug

I think he replaced the Capacitor, not the motor. Besides, RVP, there is only one way to install the motor. It will not install in reverse. Doug
