Although i did a much better job than was apparently done from the factory. i would like to improve the connection but i am not sure how that should be done.
Again, there are better connectors than a wire nut. Follow the link in my previous post.
Cause of the wire problem was probably a loosened connection and the high draw of the microwave. There can be a tremendous amount of heat generated when wires start arcing, trying to complete the circuit.
