Marlin Coatings and Dicor?

Hi - my new to me camper has a Marlin Coatings 100% silicon coating on the roof.  I want to install my 3 160 watt solar panels on the roof but am not sure what to use to seal the screw holes.  I’ve read that Dicor does not adhere well to silicon.  Any thoughts?

Thanks

  • Wow, thanks for doing all this research.  I contacted Marlin and they told me to only use silicone products.  I think I will do what you suggested though, put dicor in the holes, and then cover with Novaflex silicone.

  • Do a little research and testing IMO. Ain’t much sticks to silicone unfortunately.
But you’re stuck with it, so….

Have read 3M VHB tape will stick, idk about its UV resistance. Also Sikaflex reportedly, but that seems suspect as I’ve not gotten urethane caulk to work over even residue of silicone caulk. And rtv type sealants may adhere as well. Again not sure about UV with rtv.

Id be thinking, sealant on the threads, dicor or basically anything and maybe neoprene washers on top of the fasteners.
My opinion is I absolutely cringe when I see silicone used as caulking or sealants on RVs and tub and shower applications as it basically makes any resealing a huge challenge. Just say no to silicone!!!lol

what I did was filled the holes with dicor non sag, then put dicor non sag around the hole in a circle so when I screwed the mount down it filled the area under the bracket with a little squeeze out.  then I went over the top of the bracket and around all sides of it with self leveling dicor now seeing as you have a siliconized coating on the roof, you could try a spot and see if dicor will stick to it, or maybe just use the dicor in the holes like I did then paint some more coating over everything
