maxx air vs fantastic

I have an old Fantastic Fan in place of my AC - it has worked wonderfully for many years now. I recently replaced the fan in my bathroom with a second Fantastic Fan. The new one came with a much flatter pancake type motor. While it works just as well as the old one, it makes a high-pitched whine that the old one doesn't make, and which is very irritating (to me). I've since listened to a few of these to see if it's just a bad unit and it doesn't seem to be. All of them with the flat motor seem to make this noise.

If MaxxAir still uses the old tall motor, I'd now get one of those over the Fantastic Fan.
