BFL and I got into this issue on a thread, regarding various powermax units, and I'm now thinking the MAX input current rating is actually based on 108v line voltage, just in case line voltage does drop.
1000w / 120v = 8.33a
1000w / 108v = 9.26a
On a 1500w rating ( /.87, /.95):
1815w / 108v = 17.12
