Exponentially better! I have been messing with homemade hydronic heaters, and air, like water, will follow the path of least resistance. The slightest leak around the fan shroud will reduce its effectiveness greatly.
Have you considered changing out the cover with perforated metal? And you could cover it with a fine screen material to limit dust/dirt. Also, cabinet ventilation will help considerably if there is any heat build up there... this is the problem I have with both my battery and charger compartments, and is why I'm installing exhaust fans in them.
