I've cut the '12awg' output cord on my masochist 16.4v 'Smart' Schumacher sc2500a.
It might be the junkiest copper I've ever seen. Heats up greatly passing 25 amps. It's black under the insulation, even in the middle of the cord.
Perhaps some new 8 awg to the circuit board would act like a tranquilizer. Likely Not worth the effort though.
