Try as I might I can not convince a battery to do what I want it to do...
It makes the rules. Chemistry and physics enforce the rules.
As far as "One Touch Battery Management"is concerned, Smart IC's and battery chemistry go together. Take the IC pour a little electrolyte on it and presto, the universe becomes right once again.
Two stage charging helps. Make no mistake about it. It reduces human labor about 90% or even more.
But claiming that two stage charging does everything for all purposes is about as 'incorrect" as saying "I've got the cruise control engaged" then standing up and trotting back to the blender to make a Daiquiri.
I'll say this once again
Converter, perverter, charger manufacturers profile UNDERCHARGING ON PURPOSE. No one can sue them and win because of a sulfated battery. Someone that has batteries boiled dry because they check electrolyte levels every three years can sue a manufacturer and win. Having a feature that allows a charger TO REACH THE SAME VOLTAGE LEVEL AS A RIG'S ALTERNATOR CHARGING SYSTEM by pressing a button three times while whistling "American Pie" let's these folks off the hook a little. Complaints about early sulfation are met on the telephone by "Did you whistle American Pie in the correct key?". Batteries sulfate, the company has a 2X12 nailed across it's butt and life goes on...
Serious cycling versus the weekend warrior confuses a lot of people. Especially when the weekend warrior starts pontificating what-me-worry sneers and chuckles at folks who endure serious strategy issues with heavy cycling off grid for prolonged periods. Yeah it's a lot like being tied to mommy's apron strings and sticking your tongue out, at the big kids.
Cruising sailboats are like a hundred times more complicated than even a 40' Prevost. They have loads like R/O machines, children addicted to flat screen display XBOX loads, and electric refrigeration. Try figuring out a Catamaran's power with twin alternators, three inverters, solar panels, a wind machine and a tow generator. Did I mention the sixteen L-16 batteries?
So, like Mena said, there are RV's then there are RV's. The range of use, the range of dependence on integral power logistics is incredible.
