I am wondering if I should just put one of the old batteries on there and abuse them a bit for 10 days for the sake of max output from the solar controller. The AGM is probably too small at 32 Ah new and less than that now. I have a SLI group 27 that just will not die. Many years old, came with a used car I got once. Al I do is charge it once a month and add water, and abuse it, but it lives on seemingly forever.
Maybe use the load terminals to take it daily down to the low voltage cutout on the controller, which would restart from the same point each morning but come nowhere close to recharging the battery. I cringe at treating it this way, but really it owes me nothing and the sacrifice would be in the name of some decent data on winter performance as I pick batteries, controller, wiring, connectors...etc.
