I definitely get the benefit. I have tested the orientations. I love the added output you get being square to the sun. But the Unisolars are flexible and made to be roofing material. I'm not really up for building a frame, mounting system and titling system when these were actually designed to just be stuck on to metal,TPO or EPDM, the way you place a slick on floor tile.
So these tests are just the more or less flat positions on the roof in the storage lot. One Unisolar will have a very slight tilt to the morning sun and one into the evening the way it is parked, but the tilt is tiny. So I am not sure I will see any benefit since the tilts are opposite.
My main mounting thought is avoiding the huge shadow the AC cowl casts. I had no idea the shadow would be so huge when output is still high. I figured it would have fallen off to a tenth of an amp long before the shadow got so big.
I will look at the morning shadow tomorrow. It may be I am a little farther off of due south than I thought, or that I never really noticed how low the sun gets in the sky at the solstice.
