Hi Westend,
There is a case to be made in the north for mounting panels vertically. the sun bounces off the snow. Because of the three layers on the Unisolar I would expect the results to be nearly the same or even better than a "perfect" alignment at one hour before the solar maximum for the day.
Do you have two panels Jim? If so you could do a direct comparison for us? (pretty please with apple pie?)

Good results! These measurements were with the panel laying flat, correct? I bet there wouldn't be a heck of lot to gain by tilting the panel.
