If your cord pretzels, it's because it was twisted when you tried stuffing it in the rat hole. Keep an eye on it while packing it in and you can probably avoid the issue.
That said, my new TT has a removable cord, and I do not miss the PITA old style cord at all. If you switch you won't regret it.
Yes, I try to go as "wide" as possible to try and avoid it.
