That video of taking the fan apart from up on the roof is one of the stupidest ones that I have seen.
I went and bought a long 3/32 allan key and a cheapie 1/4 drive socket. Cut the allan key so that the total length when put together is 4 3/4 inches.
Take the screen out, remove the knob from the raise/lower shaft, remove the four screws that are near each corner where the controls are and pull down the inner frame. You can leave it hanging on the wires or disconnect for easier and complete cleaning. I installed plugins on mine for that purpose.
Next use the allan key-socket with a 1/4 drive ratchet and LOOSEN the grub screw and the fan blade will come off.
May sound involved but I clean both of our fans at least twice a year and timed the job at between 20 and 30 mins each, depending how dirty and cleaning time.
If you do try this way remember the fan blade goes back on FIRST.
Art.
