I believe that was the B-24 Liberator.
Consolidated designed and built the original in southern Cal, then the government asked Ford to start building them because they needed more and Ford was an expert in assembly lines. Ford's manufacturing expert annoyed Consolidated by asking for a few design changes that would expedite fast assembly. Ford built a huge plant to make them (still used for cars) and when they were running full tilt, a completed B-24 came off the line EVERY HOUR!
