Exactly like an automotive alternator.
BTW My 12.4 Kw KATO is about 3-times the power of a 5,000 watt contractor generator but contains about 5-times the amount of copper in the stator - for a reason...produces a beautiful sinusoidal signal and keeps it 1% - 100% load.
