The eu2000i uses a 14-pole, 3-phase alternator. There is no exciter or brushes, the rotor is permanent-magnet. Regulation is via a switching regulator on the alternator output. The alternator output is not even close to a good sine wave, which doesn't matter since it's converted to DC. The alternator output voltage is about 180 (360 p-p), exactly what's needed to build a 128 volt RMS sine wave using PWM.
