So why not float them both, if the float voltage is 13.6? Does that not cover both as time2roll says? Just add water to the flooded if required?
Well right now I only use the one battery in my rig. BUt floating a flooded at higher than specified float voltage does cause some plate erosion, it is not just a matter of having to add water more often. The screwy 31 recommended float voltage is 13.1. Yes it is still alive and being cycled lightly a few times a week. SG is well into the green on 5 of 6 cells, one in the white.
Back when i had two batteries, Well i have 3 manual switches, one for OEM wiring, one for all house loads, one for Solar and Meanwell. My strategy then was to keep one or the other battery full, but not floating. Rarely did I parallel them other than when driving.
Not sure how I will proceed when the NS ages further. I could fit ~ 240 More AH if I really wanted, but doubt I will employ that much capacity again, unless my requirements change. I am not in the capacity is king boat, but I believe we have agreed to disagree on this.
