More Money Than Brains Dept

just to keep the word "Absurd" in context.

O.K. what can top this level of insanity? How about a genuine 24 karat gold plated 15-amp receptacle for a piddly $169.00?

"They" swear up and down that these and similar ghastly over priced electrical's "greatly improves audiophile sound quality"

Quick! Where the hell did I stash the totally bogus (for fun) design for my battery pulse charger? The design was done as a joke. God, I could make a fortune. The only obstacle would be my self-conscious nature. Imagine the term "Multi-Frequency-Shift-Sulfation-Dissolver"

  • never could figure that out (monster cables) put an ampmeter on the wires and you'll not get hardly any reading. My house is wired for sound in # 16-2 rip cord. I doubt any one could tell. good speakers are more important than wire size.
  • Well that's absolutely ridiculous! That's not even Oxygen Free cable....
  • pconroy328,

I always wondered about the 'monster cables' and have a twist on it. Besides my ears suffering from ringing all the time, I don't think I could tell the stereo set up with the monster or normal cables, even in side by side comparison.

Yet here is my question to the more electrically proficient: Would there be capacitance in the monster cables?

By capacitance, I mean that it takes a few electrons to 'fill' a #14 wire and start the electricity moving down the line. How many more electrons are required with the wire is say #2 wire, or 4 times larger? So will it take more electrical power to fill the copper lines, before it starts moving to the other end and into the speaker?

As a second subject for the electronic proficient. How large is the wires winding the magnet? So if they are using #30 wire inside the magnet, why does anyone really need #8 wire going to the connection on the back of the speaker, then to #18 wire internally to the speaker, then to #30 wire (or whatever size it is) inside the speaker near the magnet?

I do know some people that have so little knowledge in electrical things that they would be "Happy" to spend $100 on a monster cable for the high def TV set, and $150 more for the monster cables to the surround sound system that it is hooked up to. Giving them advice and trying to convince them that only 0.01 amps is going from the cable box to the RGB receiver inside the TV set is just like blowing wind through their empty head.

That a speaker system really never exceeds 10 amps in normal use (except say a concert).

Some will never really ever figure it out. Yes you could sell them a relay that turns on and off as the battery is charged, as a de-sulfiter. It also works to charge the battery (takes twice as long because it is off so many minutes per hour, but it will charge it someday)

    Have fun!

    Fred.
  • Ok - there's no way in heck I'd ever pay for these Monster style cables. But I've seen a couple of studies in Audiophile magazines where the cables do "sound" better to professionals in a double-blind study.

I'm confident my tin-ears couldn't tell the difference any more. But I'm not willing to dismiss it as all hooey.
