I might test it with the old controller,. But to do this I will have to connect some .small Wire to the new cable to get it under the tiny terminals of the old controller

Maybe my measurements and math are different (wrong?) From others, what is the Vdrop between your controller and batteries?
@Kendall in the open, no shade 9:30 AM & Cloudy , reading 4.3a, sun came thru a break in the clouds and it jumped to 7.6a
10:30am full overcast looks like rain coming 2.99amps
