AFAIK, charging is desulfating by definition.
No way to know really. Mr Wiz has a routine that is working so he doesn't have to bother about it.
1. I'm not so sure. I'll have to restudy up on that. If it were true... and if desulfators work... then there would be no need for chargers, eh?
(Caveat coming...)
You have had a different experience with your B&D desulfator that I have not had, nor have I heard of anyone else having. You say the unit does not give you improved SG on its own, but rather "preps" the battery to accept more charge.
I did not witness this. I actually got improved SG from a battery that was supposed to be full. Using your method with the 2A setting, I got no added charge after desulfating.
But if you're right, then it's possible that the desulfator does not really revert the electrolyte, but just shakes the sulfate loose from the plates, puts it into solution where it can then be reverted by a charge.
If this is indeed how it works, then I would say that it's possible that charging, as you say, IS desulfating by definition and this is why a desulfator alone does not charge a battery.
But like I said, I need to restudy.
2. Yes. Mr. Wiz's system is definitely working... and well! But we don't know how well because IIRC, we do not have any SG measurements. As I said earlier, I'm betting his batteries are stratified the majority of the time regardless of SOC. We have all but proven that it takes either time, tipping or gassing voltage to destratify and thus truly charge to 100%.
