Well then there is his solar controller. I know about gassing voltages vs temperature--that's why I created a spreadsheet about it.
14.4 @ 25 C = gassing voltage, and that is a conservative number. I.E. it is going to gas for sure at that temperature and voltage.
Batteries do "heat" when charging. How much I don't know--but I do know that if the amperage is over the acceptance level the energy may be mostly dissipated as heat inside the battery, so Mr. Wizards boost voltage might well be enough in the sort of temperatures he lives in most of the year.
I was surprised earlier this past year to find out that lead is easier to heat up than water. I never would have dreamt that was so.
