The differenence in attitude seems to be that IMO if you spend thousands on a generator etc it is a waste not to run it; while others seem to think it is a waste to run it because it uses gasoline and you should run out and spend more thousands so you don't have to run the gen.
Looks like the average RVer starting out could get a smaller cheaper gen (that could be paralleled later) and some solar (which he could add to later if desired) and see how that goes first.
Another big factor is air conditioning. We never use ours camping on the Island (you do need it sometimes on the Mainland) but if you do need it, then a small gen won't run that. So once you have the big gen to run the air conditioner, you are back to not really needing solar!
I find that I keep returning to the solar idea to see if it would work (it never does) and I don't understand why there is this "pressure" but it is hard to resist it. Like some sort of fashion thing you do or climbing a mountain "because it is there" Without these actual figures on how it works to get you back to reasoning it out there would be no defence against the strange attraction it has that you just want it even though it makes no sense.
