I've watched this thread from the start, and learned a thing or two about what to expect from solar, and how to best define my goals before I start buying a lot of stuff. And the constant drumbeat of "free" electricity reports has taken it's toll--I'm that much closer to stepping up for a couple of large panels.
In my mind, W's residential fridge thread is part of the same picture. I haven't looked at my Dometic the same since I discovered that I can cut my electric use by more than half by swapping in a $400 fridge from Home Depot.
At a dollar a KwH for gas-generated electricity, solar seems to make sense on an ongoing basis, although the cap costs are still going to sting. What to do! What to do!
