Hi BFL13,
Does your fridge have an automatic setting and do you use it on 110 when doing the charging?
I've often thought that RV's could have a "cold storage" cupboard for winter camping. Something with a grill that could be covered over with a slider in the summer months.
I have experimented with freezer packs instead of running the fridge at all in winter time. I need to make a rack by the propane tank where I could rotate them. The tank would shield them from road grime.
One potential problem with a residential fridge in extreme climates may be the compressor freezing. I do know that keeping a freezer in an unheated garage does not work well. I've never thought about why.
There are those who also try to protect their absorption fridges by having a light bulb in the access hatch to keep things warm, while blocking off most of the air inlets. I tried this last winter and concluded that I would need some sort of thermostat in addition to the heat source as I had uneven results.
It is on the list of mods but the installer is too busy with other more munificent tasks to do the work on my RV, partly because of all the flooding in Saskatchewan.
